Favorite Plus Size Stores 2021 edition

It is time to share another list of all the places I have been shopping at, online or in-store. This is just an updated version from my old list, which you can access here. Previously, I included almost any stores that I know of carrying plus-size clothes. This time I decided to list the stores that I specifically browse or buy from. Here is some quick information about me before I get started. I am plus-sized. I considered myself to be a plus size.

There used to be a time when I was uncomfortable going into stores like Rue21, Forever21, American Eagle, H&M, and the list goes on. At some point, I said screw it and walked into those stores. I discover that if you have the courage, then you will find treasures. I am a US 16, wear US XL or 1X. It depends on the materials and how the item is cut and made. For example, if a shirt is too boxy or oversized, I go down a size or two. All you have to do is ignore people’s stares and judgment and shop for yourself.

Shein
I do not particularly love all the items I bought from Shein, but for the most part, I am pleased with most of the stuff I have bought. It is a hit or miss. That being said, I have bought a few shirts for as low as $5.00, and they are all excellent quality shirts. I have bought dresses for around $25, and the materials did not feel pleasant. Additionally, the fitting can also be weird. Nonetheless, I feel like it is an online store anyone should try because there is some cute stuff.

H&M
I do not know about other H&M stores, but the one where I live does not necessarily carry their plus size selection in stores. Plus, just by browsing online, the plus-size selection does not have much variety. However, like American Eagle, H&M does carry oversize tops. One of my sisters typically wears a 3X/4X, and I have bought her sweaters from H&M in sizes XL or XXL. They fit her perfectly.

Fashion Nova
Many people rave about Fashion Nova, and honestly, I do not think it is worth all the talks. I feel like most of their stuff is overpriced. For example, I bought some earrings that were $5-$8. They look and feel cheap, like jewelry I can get from the dollar store. Nonetheless, there might be some items that are definitely worth the price. However, I will not discuss this matter further because I have not ordered anything that costs more than $30 apiece. Moreover, I feel like I can them get cheaper most of the things I have bought at places like Ross, TJ Maxx, Gabe’s, and Walmart. The downside is that any returns will be credited back to your account and applied to your next purchase.

Torrid
It has been a while since I bought something for myself from Torrid, but it is a store that my sisters and I often visit. Now, Torrid is expensive and is the priciest store on this list. However, I have bought some adorable stuff on clearance. One year I was fortunate to buy a dress that I have wanted to buy for $25. I remember trying it when I first saw it and fell in love with it, but not the price. So, months later, when I went back, it was on clearance but still expensive. Lucky for me, a few days later, they were doing an additional 50% off of clearance, and there was only one left in my size. If you are an avid Torrid customer, I suggest signing up for their loyalty program. You get a birthday reward, and for every $250 you spend, you earn a $15 reward. Additionally, sometimes you may get surprise rewards. For example, I have received Torrid cash up to a total of $75. It was $25 off a $50 purchase and a method to make customers spend money.

Target
I have always love Target since I was in eighth grade. I bought so many cute jackets, tops, and dresses. Target does have a plus-size selection, and I have been to many different Targets. Depending on where you live, the plus-size selection may be limited or very generous. The Target in my hometown, the plus-size department is limited, but there are still some good finds.

American Eagle/Aerie
I love American Eagle and only started shopping there when I was 23 years old because I heard how good their jeans were. Soon enough, I fell in love with the place. American Eagle and Aerie’s sizes only run up to an XXL and 24. So, many people do not consider the store to be size-inclusive. However, there is hope. There are a lot of oversize fit tops and jackets. I usually wear a size XL, so I will size down to a large and sometimes a medium for anything that is labeled oversize. Finally, in my experience, I love their customer service because they are fast and they know their job. Now, that may just be me because I do not like making someone’s job hell since I also work in retails, and I know how it feels to have rude customers.

One rule that I have learned when shopping these past few years is that one must definitely try before buying. I have run into problems where an item labeled as XL or 1X was too big or too small. If it is too small, do not panic and do not get disappointed. It does necessarily means that you got bigger, but the item’s material or the pattern may be the reason why the item is running small. Also, take into consideration the brand name, some brands run small. However, it is also important to know when a brand change its sizing measurements to match the measurements of the average body. Additionally, keep in mind that you are spending your money and no one has the right to judge you.
